Recycling and Garbage
The Charter Township of Ironwood contracts with the Gogebic Solid Waste Transfer Station for solid waste service. If you experience problems or have questions, please contact them at 906-932-0600 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Garbage collection is a part of a special assessment in the township, every habitable home will have services already when you move into your residence or cottage.  If this residence or cottage is new to you, please check with our office to make sure we have an updated billing address.

Holidays Observed
When a holiday occurs during the week, there still will be waste pick-up on that day.  If there is a change in service, a notice will be posted on our homepage as an alert and on our LED sign in front of the office.

Recycling
There are two recycling bins located behind the Ironwood Township Hall building for recycling.  Cardboard and paper products are the only allowed products at this time.

Compost Site
Ironwood Township does not have a dedicated compost site for township residents at this time.  Most residents just use their own property to store downed tree branches, wood chips, etc.  If you would not like to do that, the City of Ironwood does have a compost site available.  Please CLICK HERE for more information on their site, operation hours and fees.

Taking Out the Garbage
  • Refuse is collected weekly at the curb year-round.
  • Plastic bags or refuse cans are acceptable containers (cardboard boxes are not, contractor bags are not).
  • Weight should not exceed 50 pounds.
  • Containers should not be placed at the curb until after 7 p.m. on the day before collection.
  • Refuse pickup routes begin at 7 a.m., at the latest, please have your refuse placed at the curb by that time on the day of your pick up.
  • Containers should be removed from the curb by midnight on the day of collection.
Find out when your garbage pick-up day is by clicking here!

Discarding oversize items, large boxes, or oversized items may be defined as anything that exceeds 50 pounds, does not fit in a 30-gallon waste container/bag, or is greater than 5 feet in length.  You may still dispose of an item that is considered oversized by bringing these items to the transfer station yourself for a fee.

If you have more than your 2 can/bag limit, Township waste bags can be purchased at the Township Hall building for $1.50 per bag to be added to your regular pick up day.

Collection Time
The waste containers should be at the curb by 7 a.m. Please make sure your waste is out at this time or it will not be picked up.  Garbage should be picked up by 3:30 p.m. CST.  During bad weather days, pickup could be running late.
